Poly Bags Properties & Measurements

BAG TYPES ORDER OF MEASUREMENTS
Flat Bags Width X Length plus gauge
Side Gusset Bags Width X Gusset X Lenght plus gauge
Bottom Gusset Bags Width X Length X Gusset plus gauge

Measuring for Flat Bag: Width x >Length

Width = Opening of bag
Length= Usable portion of bag
Gauge= Film thickness, measured in mils or microns

Example:
Width= 6 inches
Length = 9 inches
Gauge= .002 inches
Bag size is written as: 6” x 9” 2 mil

Measuring for Bottom Gusseted Bags: Width x Length x Gusset

Width = Across opening of the bag
Length= From opening to bottom of the bag (with gusset tucked in)
Gusset= Distance across the open face of bottom pleat
Gauge = Thickness of bag, measured in mils.

Example:
Width= 6 inches
Length = 9 inches
Gusset= 3 inches
Gauge = .002 inches
Bag size is written as: 6" X 9" X 3" 2mil

Measuring for Side Gusseted Bags: Width x Gusset x Length

Width = Across opening of the bag (with gusset tucked in)
Gusset = Distance across the open face of side pleat
Length = From the opening to the bottom of the bag
Gauge = Thickness of bag, measured in mils.

Example:
Width = 6 inches
Gusset = 3 inches
Length = 9 inches
Gauge = .002 inches
Bag size is written as: 6”x 3” x 9” 2 mil

MICRONS TO MILS FORMULA

Divide the microns by 25.4 to express micron as thickness in mils
10 microns /25.4 = .39 Mil
24 microns/25.4 = .94 Mil

MILS TO MICRONS FORMULA

Multiply the mils by 25.4 to express mils as thickness in microns
1.0 Mils = 25.4 Microns
.30 Mils x 25.4 = 7.6 Microns
.65 Mil x 25.4 = 16.5 Micron

LOW DENSITY

  • Virgin low density polyethylene complies with FDA and USDA requirements for use with food
  • Fractional Melt improves strength in cold temperatures.
  • Fractional Melt improves strength in cold temperatures.

LINEAR LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE

  • Stronger than low density polyethylene and puncture resistant.
  • Complies with FDA and USDA requirements for use with food.

HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE

  • For use in retail and industrial applications

POLYPROPYLENE

  • Preserves freshness with vapor and moisture barriers. Excellent clarity for product presentation.

STATIC SHIELDING

  • Buried metal construction provides Faraday Cage protection.
